Last night, Gabriel slept with his Dad and Amelia. Everything went well. Gabriel was peaceful and slept in one go from 8pm to 4am.
Last night, his PICC fell out. Since then, he has had a catheter in his left arm. For the time being, there are no plans to fit a new PICC. Maybe he won’t even need one. We’ll see how things progress. Otherwise, the catheter will have to be changed every 3 to 5 days.
Today’s results are good.
Today we put on some music for him, from your playlist. We danced with him.
And we found some cute little toys that project lights on the ceiling.
We transformed the room in our own way, to make him (and us) feel at home.
One of the most emotional moments today was the speech therapy session.
For the first time in over three months, Gabriel tried the bottle again.
The speech therapist started by having him suck on a finger. He responded well.
Then she suggested a rigid bottle: he managed to suckle a little.
Then a softer bottle… and then he drank.
Not much, about 15 ml, but it was huge for us. Three months without a bottle, and the reflex is still there. That’s a victory.
Tonight, we called on the services of Paula, a UTI caregiver we really appreciate. She’s always been attentive, gentle and present at night. It’s reassuring. Thanks to her, Manuela and I will be able to go home together and spend a real night together. It’s been a long time…
And we notice it every day: things are changing at the hospital. Many rules have evolved.
Some are new, others are simply more rigorously applied. And we know from internal sources that all this is partly the result of our many complaints… and sometimes of my outbursts too,
Gabriel, in spite of himself, has helped move the lines here.
That’s all for today.
Tomorrow is a great day 😉
See you tomorrow.
