Gabriel is 3 months old today.
This is the third “birthday” we’ve spent in hospital…
He spent a quiet night, accompanied by his cousin Pedrinho.
Following last night’s fever, several tests were ordered: PCR, blood culture, blood count and gasometry.
The blood culture will take several days to come out, but the other results indicate ongoing inflammation/infection.
The doctor on duty decided to go back on antibiotics and corticoids. We’re back on a heavy combination: Meropenem, Vancomycin, Ciprofloxacin, Hydrocortisone, Dexamethasone, Budesonide, Epinephrine, not forgetting the sedatives…
Basically, in my opinion, without the results of the blood culture, they don’t know exactly what they’re up against. So they pull out all the stops to take no chances. And honestly, I think that’s the right decision.
Despite all this, according to Pedro, her clinical condition remained stable throughout the night. It’s a bit paradoxical, but rather reassuring.
I’m waiting to find out more later today, and to be able to go and see it, because for the moment UTI is closed…

Gabriel spends the afternoon with his mother. I didn’t have the courage to go.
The doctor came to give him the day’s report and told him that, from the lungs and the day’s X-ray, it was better.
Problem: there was no radio today. When we pointed it out to him, he admitted he’d made a mistake and said he was talking about yesterday’s radio… Reassuring…
Despite this, according to the head of the department, Gabriel’s pulmonary situation remains stable. They’ve continued to lower the oxygen while increasing the flow of pulsed air. I don’t know exactly what this means, but his saturation remains good, between 97 and 99%. No fever reported today.
Of course, we’re still worried. But they’ve given him all the medication he needs to prevent a major infection, and we’re hoping it will take effect. We are now awaiting the results of the blood culture at the end of the week, which will tell us if there is any particular bacteria to treat.
Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting our little boy.
Whether it’s prayer, positive thoughts or energy, we welcome it all!

Despite this risk of infection, Gabriel is fairly stable.
they gradually continue to lower the oxygen in preparation for transfer to a conventional cannula.
this evening he made a little poo after a few days without. That’s great news!
