We&#8217;re told he&#8217;ll be discharged in three days, then in a month&#8230; It&#8217;s unmanageable. <\/p>\n\n<p>Today, we had an appointment with the hospital&#8217;s doctor coordinator.<br\/>Perhaps the only person (along with the shrink) in whom we still have a modicum of faith. <br\/>They know how to show empathy, a rare resource here.<\/p>\n\n<p>From now on, we&#8217;ll listen only to her. <br\/>The rest will be noise. <br\/>She has promised that a pneumologist who already knows Gabriel will follow him up, starting today, face-to-face. <br\/>To be continued&#8230; <br\/>Saying makes you laugh. Doing makes you shut up. So I hope I don&#8217;t have to open it.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Nothing is clear about his condition. No one can really say. <\/p>\n\n<p>He is currently breathing with 1 L of oxygen per minute, doing physiotherapy and receiving his treatments.<\/p>\n\n<p>The evolution is unpredictable: it can last 2 years, 5 years&#8230; or a lifetime.<\/p>\n\n<p>What&#8217;s certain is that his lungs will remain fragile, and he&#8217;ll need lifelong protection against respiratory infections.  <br\/>He&#8217;ll probably need regular treatment, and may have to wear a mask, especially during high-risk periods, to prevent further infection. And we&#8217;re going to put all our faith in the growth of his lungs! <\/p>\n\n<p>Yesterday, an online doctor spoke of a very serious case; today, the coordinator considers it to be more in the &#8220;less serious&#8221; range of cases she knows of.  <\/p>\n\n<p>\n          <em>(Basically, I don&#8217;t think we give a damn, and we shouldn&#8217;t today).<\/em>\n        <\/p>\n\n<p>For the moment, we&#8217;re preparing our life here:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contract signed for one year in an apartment (we got the keys on Saturday)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organization with the hospital of a <em>home care<\/em> plan when he is discharged (home care with oxygen, physiotherapist, pediatrician, speech therapist, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some consultations will take place at the hospital<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>We still have a Plan B: to return to France, probably to a hospital in Lyon or Paris.  <br\/>We are waiting for the department manager&#8217;s return from vacation (August 25) to discuss the matter.  <br\/>I also asked for a quote for medical repatriation: estimated cost between \u20ac30,000 and \u20ac160,000, with full medical care from departure to hospitalization in France. But it would probably be risky.
