It was a complicated night for Gabriel. Even with 100% saturation, he was breathing very hard, with a lot of discomfort. <\/p>\n\n
At around 2 a.m., the doctor ordered an X-ray to find out what was going on.<\/p>\n\n
At 4 o’clock, the atelectasis in his left lung appeared to have worsened.<\/p>\n\n
They had to put him back on a high-flow cannula, with a larger oxygen supply.<\/p>\n\n
This is a major blow for us. Just yesterday, we were told we might be leaving today. <\/p>\n\n
Here, nothing can be taken for granted. Every day is a struggle. <\/p>\n\n
This morning was very difficult for both of us. The constant emotional yo-yo is exhausting. <\/p>\n\n
We have requested authorization to receive the doctor’s report at 2 (he is an authorized person).<\/p>\n\n
Then, in the early afternoon, we saw the doctor.<\/p>\n\n
According to him, Gabriel shows no signs of new infection. So the problem is more likely to come from inside the lung. <\/p>\n\n
To find out more, he has scheduled a bronchoscopy for tomorrow morning at 9am.<\/p>\n\n
How does it work?<\/p>\n\n
They will insert a small camera through the mouth, explore the trachea, go down to the bronchi, and clean up if necessary.<\/p>\n\n
This will allow us to see exactly what condition Gabriel’s lungs are in.<\/p>\n\n
The doctor also warned us that there was a small risk that Gabriel would be reintubated after the examination, if he didn’t tolerate the sedation well. But Gabriel will be fine without it! <\/p>\n\n
In the early afternoon, Gabriel was very agitated, still on a high-flow cannula and a large amount of compressed air\/oxygen.<\/p>\n\n
As I write these lines, he’s probably in his mom’s arms. Here’s hoping he finds some peace and quiet, and all the love he needs. <\/p>\n\n
