Tonight, Gabriel was accompanied for the first time by his cousin C\u00e9lia, sister of Silv\u00e2nia and Wellinton, who came from Quixeran\u00f3polis, in the interior of Cear\u00e1. Very committed, she has mobilized prayer groups across Brazil, and even as far as Haiti, to support Gabriel every day! <\/p>\n\n
He had a good night, and this morning, he was also doing well.<\/p>\n\n
Following the installation of the PICC yesterday, Gabriel’s ventilatory parameters were increased again, particularly oxygenation, now at 44%. <\/p>\n\n
We are waiting for the doctor’s visit to learn more.<\/p>\n\n
The chief doctor of the service came by. She told us that Gabriel is on the path to improvement. The blood results are encouraging and, according to her, the protocol put in place seems to be bearing fruit. There is still a way to go, of course, but hope is there! <\/p>\n\n
She remains cautious, awaiting the results of the scan scheduled for the end of this week.<\/p>\n\n
Following the scan, a bronchoscopy is being considered to explore the atelectasis in the upper part of the right lung. They hope to be able to \u201cclean\u201d this partially obstructed area a bit. This could take place next week. <\/p>\n\n
She also shared with us her wish to be able to remove the tube as soon as possible (next week was mentioned?!).<\/p>\n\n
I asked her if Gabriel could breathe on his own without the tube. Her answer: yes, she thinks it’s possible. In the worst case, a tracheostomy would remain an option, but she clearly prefers to avoid it. <\/p>\n\n
She also reminded us not to focus too much on the numbers: oxygen saturation, machine settings… all of these fluctuate constantly. What really matters is looking at Gabriel: his complexion, his weight gain, his energy. <\/p>\n\n
And today, indeed, he was beaming!<\/p>\n\n
I just spent some time with him. He was wide awake, calm, curious, moving in all directions. They even sat him up for a good five minutes for a little \u201cexercise\u201d session: \u201carms in the air, elbows and knees moving…\u201d He \u201cseemed to enjoy it, it\u201d was beautiful! <\/p>\n\n
